The exciting rush of being pregnant in the real world

I stopped watching television 4 years ago. Kicked the habit for my children. I have never regretted it. All benefits, no disadvantages. Try it.

On television or on radio, topics of pregnancy are usually greeted with dramatics of how shocking or disapproving the discovery of pregnancy can be. Usually the pregnancy is cast in the plot of an unfaithful wife such as in the TV series Desperate Housewives. Or a pregnancy is that of two young teenagers in puppy love and their dilemma which leads them to think about abortion. Turn it off, turn it off. Negative dramatic emotions unfit for those fighting infertility.

Let me share a couple of true stories.

There was one time when woman has wierd unhealthy, abnormal feelings. “Take me to the iridologist… My heart… take me to the heart doctor…” Heart doctor says, “have you checked if you are pregnant?” Woman says “No, and I do not think I’m pregnant… I count the days…” Doctor says, “Go home, get a pregnancy test kit, it is very cheap… I suspect you’re pregnant.”

Woman comes home with her husband with a pregnancy test kit. Checks in the bathroom. Shows the kit to her husband. They stare and wait for the lines to appear. The control line and the test line. Are they imagining things? Is it not clear enough? It seems to show two lines. Instructions say it is positive. Positive? Positive! “I’m pregnant? This can’t be! Go, go, go… get another one, a different brand! Get two different brands of pregnancy test kits!

Husband comes back with two kits. A second test is made. As well as a third in the same pee. Both stare and wait and look on as the kits develop their lines. Husband says, “Yes! All 3 tests confirm! You are pregnant! We are pregnant! We are going to be parents! My parents are going to be grandparents!”

Wife still hopeful… no… “I want to go to the obstetrician and have myself checked to be really sure.”

OB Gyn says 3 pregnancy test kits should make it truly positive, if you want to spend money, go get an ultrasound. (Of which I should warn you that ultrasounds may be dangerous to your child’s health. Hold that excitement, keep it simple with pregnancy test kits. You have been warned.)

Wife did get an ultrasound with a nice little print out showing the size of her baby, the estimated age, and estimated delivery date.

Tell you of another story set.

After a year or more of sexual relations with a condom. Then missing one another for a couple of months. Couple decide to forgo condoms this time. And luckily one day, woman says she feels all these strange symptoms. Obvious symptoms of pregnancy but were strange to her. Man brings in a pregnancy test kit. She tests positive! “Yehey! Yehey! I’m gonna be a father, you’re gonna be a mother!”

Luck ran out on the couple as on the 5th month of the pregnancy, woman calls that their child had died in eutero.

Sad times. But in a couple of months they tried once more. This time with a vengeance. In a few months they were actually enjoying their sexual activities. Even if they were timed to coincide with her fertile times using NFP methods. Then it happened. Another pregnancy!

Happy times. This time the pregnancy held until term and a beautiful baby girl was born.

I’ll tell of a 3rd story.

Man and woman have reproductive (non contraceptive) sexual relations for several months. Around the 7th month the sex was starting to get monotonous. It was obvious they were impatiently waiting for the next step. The obvious next step is pregnancy. All this hard work had to result in something.

Finally one month, the woman missed her period for the very first time in her life. 10 days later the man comes with a pregnancy test kit and asks her to take the test. She did take the test and do you know the result?

Negative. A big fat negative.

No big deal, take another test after a week or more as long as her period has not arrived. Hey, if a period does not arrive, the tummy grows and a baby comes out, she must have been pregnant.

Let’s wait for the couple to report on the results of their next pregnancy test kit.

My uncle Jerome told me that “you will never be a complete man unless you have born and raised children yourself.” And you know what I felt? He was correct. At the instant I knew I was a father, my brain began to change, my mode of thinking changed. Each and every baby pushes my thinking to a new level such that today truth in health commands the highest importance in my life. I do not abdicate the responsibility of true health care for my children to the greedy money interests of pharmaceutical companies, pharmaceutical trained doctors, big food companies, fast food chains or supermarkets.

On the internet you will recognize the gems… people who have nothing but altruistic motives to bare the truth, without monetary compensation, the martyrs.

Take the time to read and absorb what people are writing about. If a whole industry has to be fed too much money, this is not the best way to truth in health.

If you are hoping to see truth in television, you are out of luck. There is too much money to be made first.
