Some Animals Cannot Mate, Cannot Reproduce in Captivity

| chickens were unable to breed in this cage |
I would like to share the story of our chickens.
We had the bright idea of breeding our own chickens, we made a nice cage, had 5 hens and 1 cock.
After around 2 months of captivity, we were getting restless, no eggs yet.
Maybe our cock was infertile? We brought in a 2nd cock.
After 1 month, still no eggs… grrr… we spend so much money feeding these noisy chickens and get no benefit.
Snail season came, we tossed in a couple of snails.
Provincial rumor has it that chickens need the nutrients from those snails to lay eggs.

| chickens roam free in a section of the large garden |
Maybe the chickens were not getting enough wild and natural nutrients, sunshine, exercise or were getting claustrophobic. We decided to set them loose in the big garden. A few weeks later… success after success… after success…. eggs, eggs, eggs galore. Hens sitting incubating their eggs. A few more weeks and chicks! Chicks galore!
Did I tell you about the wild roaming cats in the neighborhood? That is another story.
We just solved our chicken infertility problem. I hope this story inspired you.
